Dispersants help pigments to be evenly dispersed in the coating system and prevent pigment particles from agglomerating. They ensure the uniform color of the coating and improve the coloring power and hiding power of pigments. High – molecular – weight polyelectrolyte dispersants, for example, can adsorb on the surface of pigment particles and keep the pigment particles in a dispersed state through charge – repulsion or steric – hindrance effects.
